Model Color Paints
Vallejo's Model Color range of water-based acrylic-vinylic colors is the widest range available to miniature and model painters.
The Model Color range contains 208 colors and an extensive assortment of mediums and varnishes, designed especially for Miniature and Model painting. The colors have been chosen with the help and advice of the best model painters from many countries. These paints have also been formulated with permanent pigments and all colors are completely lightfast and opaque (with the exception of the fluorescent and transparent colors, which are semi-opaque). A few alcohol-based metallic pigments are included in the range, since these give a harder brilliance than the water-based metallics.
The consistency of Model Color allows for an extremely smooth and uniform paint film, with no trace of brushstrokes. Professional model painters always work with a wet brush and dilute the paint with distilled water or Matte Medium, applying many thin layers to achieve depth and shadows. Colors may also be diluted with other mediums for glazes and layered applications.
The waterbased formula of Modelcolor has been specifically developed for adherence on difficult surfaces such as metal and plastic, but the product is not toxic, not flammable, and does not give off noxious fumes! Errors can be corrected immediately with water or alcohol. Model Color dries quickly to a matte, even, and waterproof finish. Exact drying time depends on the temperature and humidity of the environment, on the surface which has been painted, and on the thickness of the paint layer. Although the colors are dry to the touch within minutes, the water content must fully evaporate, thus the paints do not acquire their true permanence until several weeks after application.
Model Color paints are presented in 17ml plastic bottles, with an eyedropper nozzle which keeps the paint from drying in the bottle and prevents spills. Eight alcohol-based metallic colors are presented in childproof 35ml bottles.
Model Air Paints
The Model Air range of water-based acrylic colors have been especially developed for airbrushing. The formula contains a new acrylic resin which offers exceptional covering ability, hardness, and resistance.
The Model Air colors have been very carefully chosen to provide the model painter with the references most frequently employed. Tests were carried out for over two years to develop the tonalities which correspond to the RLM, RAL and Federal Standard colours most commonly used.
Model Air paints adhere exceptionally well to all surfaces and the adhesion of the Model Air forumla to resin models, plastics, steel and white metal is extraordinary.
The pigments used for an airbrush color need to be ground to the finest possible consistency to avoid obstruction of the airbrush components. The revolutionary Vallejo milling process of these pigments gives the model painter the finest texture when applying these colors to the model and produces a superior finish when applying the colours with a brush (for small details), for washes and transparencies, and for layered application of diluted glazes.
For cleaning of the airbrush after use of Model Air paints, a 50%/50% mix of Vallejo airbrush cleaner and alcohol is recommended. Soak the airbrush components in this mix for 12 hours, and then rinse with the airbrush cleaner. This will protect the airbrush and keep it clean. If the airbrush is being used every day without a thorough cleaning, it is recommended to leave it in the ready position with a few drops of airbrush cleaner in the cup. at the next usage, it will be in perfect condition and ready for use.
Model Air paints are also presented in 17ml plastic bottles, with an eyedropper nozzle which keeps the paint from drying in the bottle and prevents spills.
